High Technologies on the Guard of Safety: Drills at the Mairykhsky Mine

New drills for industrial enterprises of Russia were held at the Mairykhsky mine. The situation, although rare, is understandable — an oil spill.

The drill simulates a real emergency situation to the smallest detail. The incident signal is received by the management and the operational meeting determines the order of actions in a matter of minutes. Groups of volunteer firefighters of the mine and involved specialists go to the place. Clear interaction is organized, among other things, due to the special role of IT departments.

- Our department provided video communication with the Commission on Emergency Situations. The employee who saw the oil spill made a report to the commission. Next, we provided video surveillance of the emergency zone,

Ivan Nemkov, head of IT Department.

The use of high technologies to eliminate emergencies is a trend that the Mairykhsky mine sets for other industrial enterprises. All active surveillance cameras were at the place of the drilling accident. The drill’s participants received additional information using a drone. The ways to eliminate the spill are also innovative and include modern motor pumps and new generation sorbents.

The accident elimination was carried out simultaneously in all areas. Using new methods of eliminating emergencies, the drill’s participants did not forget to help the simulated victims. In total, 29 people and 24 pieces of equipment took part in the drill. These are both involved specialists and employees of the enterprise.

The large-scale drill of the Mairykhsky mine has become a strong practical experience not only for local coal miners, but also for other industrial enterprises in Russia.

- To prepare this drill, we used all the best practices gained during the accident elimination in Norilsk, when an oil spill occurred, and the accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP. The second thing is the control system that was used here. It was equated to the management system of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia. That is, we had a management link from the company's central office in Moscow, the other participants were the government of the Republic of Khakassia, the Crisis Management Center, and an anti-crisis team worked directly here, on the territory of the mine.

Andrei Firsov, head of Civil Defense and Emergency Situation, the Mairykhsky mine.

The drill’s participants have yet to analyze all the actions and the overall result. However, the main rescuers of Khakassia have already given their assessment.

- I want to thank the management of the mine today for a well-organized event, the participants for their bold actions to eliminate the oil spill. Looking at today's drill, you can be sure that everything will be fine on the territory of Khakassia and the Mairykhsky mine.

Sergey Minachev, Head of the Department of Protection of the Population and Territories of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Republic of Khakassia.
